Debt Settlement Companies- Are They Scammers? Find Out Now

Debt settlement companies are not scammers! Let me just get that out the way. Debt settlement companies negotiate with your creditors to lower your debts. Sometimes they can lower your debt significantly so you end up paying less than 50% of what you owed. With that said you will always have ethical and unethical companies. When you are speaking with a representative of a debt settlement company be very careful.

Many debt settlement companies just want to make as much money as they can without the client’s best interest in mind. Some of these representatives will say just about anything to get you to enroll in a program. Here are the warning signs that will let you know if a debt settlement company is dishonest.

If they promise to save you 60 to 70%- This might sound great at first but confirm the overall price before signing any contract. Make sure you ask the representative if their claim of high savings for you is included in the company’s fees. The company should save you at least 40% of your debt including fees and paying your creditors.

They are not part of the (BBB) Better Business Bureau- If a company is not part of the Better Business Bureau then most likely they are not legit. You need to know how long the company has been in business for. Basically, the company should have been in business for 10 years because this ensures that they know what they are doing and have settled many debts in the past. If the company is part of the BBB but there record is unsatisfactory then don't bother talking to them.

No money back guarantee- If you’re going to work with a company, make sure they provide you with a written money back guarantee. This makes sure that if they don’t come through on their promise then you get your money back.

No prove of past clients or testimonials- Before you choose a company ask to speak to at least two past clients or hear 2 audio testimonials. You should be able to read 20-30 testimonials from past clients that are listed on a 3rd party website.

You should personally do some extensive research on a couple of debt settlement companies, check their credentials, talk to past clients and workers then make your own evaluation. The company that has the best reputation that is the one you go with.

One of the best debt settlement companies is Curadebt. Curadebt has been in business for over 25 years and they have A rating with the Better Business Bureau. It is the only business I would recommend Click Here

Paying off Debt- Follow These 6 Steps Towards Financial Freedom

Paying off debt is time consuming and challenging. There is no easy way to become debt free, you have got to be prepared to put in the hard work or forget about it. My advice to you is to be consistent with your effort, don’t give up you will eventually achieve your goal. After all the hard work when you have finally paid off your debt the feeling is indescribable. Follow these 6 steps to help you accomplish your aspiration.

Stop adding to your debt- It sounds simple but most people overlook this critical step to paying off debt. Accumulating more debt while trying to get out of it defeats the whole purpose, always spend wisely. Make a list of all your bills and create a daily budget so that you know how much to spend.

Avoid paying fees- You need to pay your bills on the time. Paying unnecessary late fees plus additional interest will just add to your debt. Organize your bills so you know exactly when they are due.

Always pay more than your minimum payment- If you only pay the minimum payment your road to debt freedom will last a lifetime and you will eventually give up. On credit cards with high interest rates you will end up paying way more than you should. Try your best to pay more than the minimum payment it will save you money in the long run.

Lower interest rate on credit cards- Call up all your credit card companies and politely ask the representative if he or she can lower your interest rate. More than half of the time this works according to a study. Do not close credit cards after you have paid them off because this will lower your credit score.

Live more simply- We live in a world that promotes excessive luxury and expensive lifestyles. Everyone wants the best of everything and this is one of the main reasons why people fall into debt. If you live within your means more than likely you will be able to pay the bills. Don’t be influenced by others do what’s best for you and your family.

Swallow your pride- When you are battling debt if a friend or family member offers to help then accept it. The “I can do it myself attitude” will get you nowhere stop being stubborn we all need help sometimes. I figured this out the hard way don’t make the same mistake I did.

If your debt is overwhelming and you feel the need to use a debt settlement company then I would recommend Curadebt. Curadebt has a long history of helping clients become debt free. I have researched this company thoroughly and it’s the only one I would recommend Get a Free Debt Consultation Now to figure out why.

Learn What I Did to Finally Get Out of Debt

It took me awhile but now I’m finally debt free. Three years ago I was up to my eye balls in debt! I had three maxed out credit cards, a student loan and a personal loan. My life was in shambles I honestly thought I was going to go crazy because the debt kept on getting worst. One day I sat down and started thinking of ways to get myself out of this mess. The first idea that came to mind was to stop spending foolishly, I’m guilty of over spending buying expensive clothes, cigarettes, beer and eating out. When I actually calculated how much money I was wasting a month the figure was astonishing.

•Cigarettes $321
• Beer $60
• Clothes $200
• Eating out $150
• Total $731

The three maxed out credit cards had a 19.99% interest rate and all three were over there 5,000 limits. The personal loan was 10k and my student loan was 7k I was 32k in debt! Truthfully speaking the main reason why I got into so much debt was because I tried to play hero with my family members. Whenever they wanted financial help whether I had it or not I found away to lend them the money.

Ironically, they decided not to pay me back at all. I was in a good job working as a Law Clerk but I wasn’t wise enough to make my income work for me. After a long thinking process I came to the realization that I knew now what it takes to become debt free. I will break down the steps I used to eliminate my debt once and for all.

Quit smoking drink occasionally- I use to smoke a pack a day. What motivated me to quit was the simple fact that I was spending too much on cigarettes. I smoked my last cigarette June 15, 2007 and I never even looked at one since. I was able to save around $321 monthly. I only drink on special occasions now not buying a 12 pack of beer every week saves me at least $60. I use the extra $381 a month to pay off two of my credit card bills within 3 years.

Cooking instead of eating out-
My fiancĂ©e and I use to eat out every Friday it became a tradition. Now we cook for each other it saves us money and it’s more intimate. Buying groceries and cooking at home is way cheaper than eating at any restaurant. We saved about $150 when we cooked at home.

I started living more simply- You have to learn to live within your means. You got to separate the wants from the needs stop trying to keep up with the Jones it’s not worth it. I rarely shop because I know I have more than enough clothes to wear. My workplace is 15 minutes from home so I decided it would be cheaper if I just took the bus to work.

I ended up selling my car for 10k that allowed me to pay off my personal loan. I was paying $200 for car insurance and about $120 for gas every month. I use the extra $320 to pay off my 7k student loan within three years. The $150 I accumulated from cooking at home and the $200 from not buying new clothes for three years enabled me to eliminate my last credit card bill. I paid off all my debt with money left over to put in a high interest saving account.

It was extremely difficult-
It might sound easy but it took hard work, discipline and dedication for me to get out of debt. I can’t even tell you how many times I felt like giving up. You have got to be consistent with your efforts it’s a continual process it won’t happen over night.

Sometimes it is faster and easier to settle your debt with a debt settlement company. You have got to be careful when it comes to choosing one of these companies because some of them are not trustworthy! The only business I would recommend is Curadebt.
